Welcome To Making A Difference For Dogs
“Dogs are magicians of the universe, by their presence alone they can transform grumpy people into grinning people.”
We have first-hand experience living with a dog who supports you through anxiety, depression and PTSD. We understand how all-consuming isolation can be and how vital our dogs are to our recovery.
We’re a Social Enterprise which means that we’re dedicated to creating positive social change. We operate similarly to a business but are regulated by the CIC Regulator to ensure that our profits are ploughed back into the community we have chosen to serve:
Pet Dogs in the Veteran community and their families
We’re structured in such a way that means nobody will be receiving large dividends or bonuses. Our priority and passion are giving dogs a choice and a voice and making sure they are heard.
We completed our pilot project working in collaboration with the Weymouth Veterans Hub in Dorset in February 2022, they offered their facilities to hold our sessions and we have left a legacy in the Sgt Levene Room, built by Veterans for Veterans. Intended as a quiet space for veterans, service users and their dogs to Relax, Reboot and Recharge. We also improved the garden area installing a living wall with salad bar for the dogs and an arbour for quiet contemplation. By working together, we were able to support and make a difference for both ends of the lead.
Dogs that find themselves living with a Veteran with PTSD become that person’s lifeline, giving them a reason to get out and about, create new habits, and develop new routines. M.A.D for Dogs exists to Make A Difference to dogs’ mental and physical well-being by creating positive change in the way they are understood.
We help you get to know your dog and explain how important it is to give them freedom and time to be themselves to choose what they would like to do. We create a safe, non-judgemental environment and show you ways to encourage them to enjoy downtime to relax, reboot and recharge. We support you by sharing takeaway tips and skills for you to use, so you can recognise when your dog needs help and are equipped to give them what they need. We speak up for dogs and tell you things your dog would love you to know.
Sometimes being in a dark place, can feel like you’ve been buried, when actually you’ve been planted.
We can help each other grow.
The stuff we do here at MAD for Dogs is essential, and we want to carry on doing it.
Here are our strategic priorities for 2022/23:
● Increase awareness and understanding of dogs’ vital role in our mental and physical health.
● Open our own dedicated Canine Support Hub – for veteran’s pet dogs and their families.
● Collaborate with partners to facilitate learning and innovation.
● Strengthen revenue streams to create a more planned and sustainable future.
Your donations mean we can continue our important work which not only changes the lives of the dogs we help, it saves the lives of their owners too – THANK YOU!

MAD for Dogs Team
M.A.D for Dogs have also worked with the registered Scottish charity Bravehound.
Bravehound works with ex-servicemen and women and their families and for those suffering from mental and physical trauma, their team provide help and encouragement and teach dogs the skills and tasks they need in order to become support dogs.
Giving their guardians a focus on training, provides a much needed life line, enabling them to slowly re-integrate safely into society.
